I LOVE ME SOME SAVE THE DATES!

I really love how Suzanne and Justin’s Save The Dates reflect Suzanne’s style so beautifully! The idea to use a postcard was a great one - and I am of course extremely biased, but I completely dig the photo-driven design. A huge thanks to my good friend Kelly Cavin of The Stamped Envelope for this awesome design. You did an amazing job as always Kel!

If you’re in need of any graphic work, definitely check out Kelly’s work, it’s simply stunning. Classic, timeless, clean - I love it!

AMANDA & WES - MARRIED!

asp_holmes_11

A few images from The Holmes - Spencer Wedding in Birmingham, Alabama. They were married at Covenant Presbyterian Church, with a beautiful reception following at The Summit Club.

Amanda, a cutie from Houston, met Wes, a Birmingham native, while in school at The University of Alabama. Their courtship carried them both back to Birmingham, where they eventually decided to marry. They joined Covenant, and became close with Danny Giffen, who actually ended up marrying them. This was particularly special for me too, as Danny has played a major role in my husband’s spiritual walk - leading his bible study for three years.

DeAnna Morgan, planner and director extraordinaire put together their stunning day. Everything came together so well it was unreal. Every time I work with DeAnna, I feel like I’ve missed something because she makes my job so easy! She has a plan for everything…everything.

I loved being privy to the spiritual beliefs that were prevalent in this couple’s ceremony. Amanda and Wes are both so grounded in their faith, and that is always refreshing to see. After they tied the knot, we partied the night away! Literally. As a side note, this was the first wedding I decided to inhale Red Bull while working - totally worth it, I think.

Congratulations to a lovely couple. I am blessed to know you and be a part of your life! All the best.

THE SHRIMP SCAVENGER

Yep, you read that title right. Completely random post? Sure. Totally worth the randomness? You’re the judge…

So, here I am in an upscale hotel in Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles. This is our base of operations as we search for our new home on the west coast. Gorgeous town! I really love this community. And really nice hotel - intimate, sophisticated, cozy - you really couldn’t ask for more.

Enter my Larry David life < here >. I’m sitting in the bar yesterday, in the early evening, just taking a break with my husband before dinner. We had drinks and appetizers, enjoying the view. I ordered a shrimp cocktail. After eating four of my six shrimp, I decided I’d had enough and headed up to the room to blog and get ready for dinner. Then, after I left, this guy in a suit asks my husband if I didn’t like the shrimp. He replies, “she liked it, she was just done” - thinking he was asking for a recommendation for appetizers. Like any normal person would assume…

Well, he turned around for a minute to order a drink, and when he turned back around, the dish was still there…but the last two shrimp were GONE. And weirder, this guy is hiding his hand underneath his coat. REALLY? WHAT? Who eats leftover shrimp? In a nice hotel? In a suit? Like a spy? Seriously?!

So, that was that. The Shrimp Scavenger. Just a little tale of my normal Larry David life…but now on the west coast.

A PEEK AT MARCIE & JUSTIN’S BIG DAY!

Marcie and Justin were married at the lovely St. Mark’s in Birmingham, Alabama, followed by a beautiful reception at B&A Warehouse. I loved so many aspects of their wedding! Marcie did a tremendous job at pulling together all of her details, and it really is just FUN for me to work with a couple so in love, and a girl so organized that every detail is planned out…

Here is a peek into their big day - look for more images and vendor links in an upcoming post. Congratulations!

#98 - CHECK!

After waiting almost an entire year to complete new album designs and find new vendors to work with, we finally have a complete set of new sample albums in the studio! This was a great item to check off of the 101 in 1001 list, and I am so happy to have these beautiful albums to show.

Finding the right albums for your work is not an easy task, and we worked with numerous album companies until we finally found the right ones for us. Once we found the companies we worked with best, and the styles that best bound together our clients stories, our wedding photography really came into its own. Now, album design is by far one of my favorite aspects of our wedding photography. I love to tell our clients’ stories through their design. Getting albums in is always one of the highlights of each week!

I slowly narrowed down the album companies we work with by talking with other photographers and studios and going through some painstakingly detailed research at WPPI. To the fellow photographers who read this blog, I would really encourage you to get out there and look for what you really want out of your albums. There are some beautiful and unique products that will fit your brand so well! I think the main thing I’ve learned about albums over the past couple of years is that they can be what you want them to be. Don’t settle for any products just because they are more mainstream or seemingly easier to work with up front. I found some companies that would work WITH us, and help us create the products we were looking for. I found wonderful reps and incredible support by simply asking.

I am thrilled to have the albums that we wanted, that fit our brand, now complete and in the studio. Drop by and check them out if you are in the neighborhood!

SUPER-FUN MAIL DAY!

I pretty much had the best day ever today! SO many to-do items were checked off the list - YEA! And then, out of the blue, I got one of the most fun gifts of all time in the mail - a beach bag from Sam!!! According to Sam, nothing says Maine like L.L. Bean, and how much fun is this bag?! Sam, you are so very generous and thoughtful, and I can’t tell you how thankful I am to be able to count you as a friend. What a blessing you are!

This great present also reminded me that I haven’t really blogged about the awesome AKC beach trip. So, be looking for that sometime this next week! Such a fun time and such a memorable week - you definitely don’t want to miss the stories. If you missed the first blog about AKC, you can catch up by reading about it here.

Thanks Sam!

GOING BACK TO CALI

Well, I’m excited to be heading out to Los Angeles to find a place to live. My plan of finding a neighborhood the first week I was out there was perhaps a tad overzealous - so we’ll be trying to narrow it down further this trip. In the meantime I’ve been pouring over real estate magazines and a tourist publication called “Where L.A.”, as well as watching the entire first season of Entourage. Okay, that’s not really relevant, I know, but I feel better about watching the whole season in two days if I think of it as research…

As soon as I know for sure where we’ll be, I’ll definitely be putting images up on the blog. Anyone care to have some input? I would love to hear from you! Let me know if you have any thoughts about where we should be looking!
