Never a bridesmaid…or at least anymore.

You are all probably familiar with my friend Anna - sister of Mary Brantley, whose engagement session was posted just a couple of days ago. Great news: Anna is engaged! Sad news: I can’t be present at the wedding.
There was a point when I felt as though I was in a wedding every other weekend. Those days have passed. But now I am SHOOTING a wedding every other weekend! There are very few people in my life who I look forward to standing beside as a witness to their marriage…Anna is one of them.
Anna and I became friends the summer of 2001 when we worked at JH Ranch together and were housemates. We hit it off fast - super-fast! I think we were pretty much inseparable by the time we got off the bus from Sacramento. We quickly became very close and the friendship has weathered the years in a deep and meaningful way. Interesting note: Anna and I have NEVER lived in the same place! And yet, we have leaned on one another and grown closer over the years. Especially dear to me, she was one of four bridesmaids who stood and witnessed my marriage to Jason.
I have prayed for her husband for years. And now Brad is here!!! They became engaged to be married just a couple weeks ago - awesome proposal by the way. Their website is so sweet and inspirational and you should absolutely check it out! Above all else, their love story glorifies the Lord in an awesome way, and I have loved watching it unfold! Their wedding will be amazing - great wedding planner, gorgeous location, beautiful couple in love. So, with all that said…here comes the snail mail and tears…
I got home from an engagement session this week and was welcomed with a lovely handwritten note. Real mail! Imagine that! I open it up to find the most heartfelt letter from Anna, asking me to stand beside her on her wedding day as a bridesmaid - and I cried. Really cried. I was heartbroken! I would have loved to be a part of her wedding day, but alas was already going to be at another wedding that same day - one that I am shooting. In the end, we talked and cried and rejoiced, and I am still sad to miss the day she marries Brad, but I am also still excited about the wedding I am shooting that day…and all is well that ends well.

So there is my little story for the day. The perils of working in the wedding industry…and the blessings of amazing friendship…
